I Want to Be a Millionaire
February 22nd, 2007 by forojuan [^]

Just about everyone I know has said that they want to be a millionaire. As it turns out those dreams are just that… Dreams. People say they “want to be a millionaire” like romantics throw around the word “love”. The phrase has become part of our everyday lingo and has lost its value, so to speak. It makes me wonder, do we really want to be a millionaire when we say we want to be a millionaire?

As a fairly recent college grad I’ve had time to work in the “real world” (as if all my experiences before were either insignificant or fiction) and I have come to learn a lot about what I need to make myself happy. For me, that’s what everything comes down too in life. What is going to make me happy? When I’m hungry-I eat, when I’m tired-I sleep, and so forth. To go through an entire life span simply satisfying our insatiable needs is not enough for me to be content with my own life. I need more…

I have expensive tastes. I can go to a store and pick out a watch that I’d like and for some reason it ends up being the highest priced item they offer. I don’t necessarily know anything about Name Brands or specific details that make creating a watch more valuable than another; instead I just trust my own judgments. I like nice clothes, old-fashioned cars, and the latest gadgets on the market. I have expensive tastes, but I don’t have the luxury of being able to live expensively. I genuinely admire these things. Unlike most “rich” people who have more money than they have admiration for the quality of goods that they purchase. If I were “rich” I would know how to enjoy it.

“I want to be a millionaire.” – Me

Like most people, I believe that if I had more money I would have fewer problems. Hip-hop songs boast “more money, more problems”, but that’s bullshit. The self-absorbed performers are just trying to insinuate that they still have problems (a ploy by many too keep others interested in themselves), even though they are rich and their life is… can be perfect. If more money brings on more problems, bring it on baby! I am determined to be a millionaire. This is something I truly want and could appreciate! I will try every opportunity that comes my way, and when all my opportunities have been exhausted, I will look harder.

“The harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.” – Thomas Jefferson

If you want to be a millionaire like me, ask yourself, are you trying your hardest? If not, then you don’t really want it so don’t bother doing a half ass job because this is a full time commitment. I’d recommend you just stop reading this and move on to your next dream because this commitment is not for seasonal hobbyist. Now that I got rid of the weak ones, ask yourself this: have you exhausted all the opportunities made available to you to be a millionaire? Yes? Oh really? Have you set up a retirement account to accumulate 1 million or so over the span of your work career? Do you enter sweepstakes such as Publisher’s Clearing House? Are you pursuing a friendship or romantic relationship with a millionaire? If not, what are you doing? Business? Inventions? Becoming a millionaire is going to have to become your goal and your passion, because as Bread says, “dreams are for those who sleep”. I hope that this site becomes a vehicle for people who have a passion for wanting more out of life. I want to create a network of ideas and a system of support for everyone who reads or contributes. I’m going to get rich, or… at least die upper middle class trying. I believe it can happen.
