I’ve been with Sprint PCS since 1999, and recently their customer service quality has declined while their rates have been up. I had become extremely frustrated with them always smudging my monthly bill. A plan of $50/mo ended up costing me around $100 regularly and I grew tired of that abuse. I was so ready to ditch them for a much cheaper MetroPCS (available in the San Francisco Bay Area) until I discovered Hustler’s comments about a recent Employee Referral program offered by Sprint.
Basically with this plan you get 500 minutes for $30/mo (you can also choose from 1200 and 2500 min plans) which is 65% off the normal price for these plans. These are also Fair & Flexible plans which means you pay $5 for every additional 30 min over your base plan.
The catch with this plan is a total deal maker — you get
- Unlimited Sprint Mobile to Mobile calling
- Unlimited Web Access, Text Messaging and Emailing!
- Unlimited Sprint Vision Power and Picture Mail
- Unlimited Nights and Weekends (nights at 9pm - you can change this too)
- Free Romaing!!!
- Free Long Distance
- and for new plans, a $29.99 Motorola Razr!
(See the steps on How to Get the Employee Referral Program Deal)
These prices are comparable to MetroPCS (they are also known as Ghettro in SF). They offer the same features accept you have to pay the full price for the phone, activation, their network is not nearly as reliable (or as large), and their plans don’t include free roaming.
So, you do have to sign up for a 2 year agreement, but for this priced I’m hooked anyway!
If you’ve thought about getting a new phone service, about switching your current provider, or leaving Sprint for some reason, this offer is a no-brainer and is extremely difficult to refuse! Just compare it to any plans available by other large mobile retailers.
So you’ve read the details. How do you get this plan you ask?
If you already have a Sprint PCS Plan
- Call Customer Service (dial *2 on your phone) and speak to any Customer Service agent.
- Tell them you want to switch your plan to the Employee Referral Program.
- They may not know what the plan is off bat but explain to them in detail and they will find it.
- Even if you already have a Sprint plan you can get it, so if they try to say otherwise just be persistent.
- Usually you need an employee’s email address to sign up on the website - don’t mention it unless they ask for it, but you can find one easily by doing a google search for @sprint.com
- That’s it! — the only thing is you don’t get the Razr for $29.99 =(
If you don’t have a Sprint PCS Plan
- Do a google search for @sprint.com to get an employee email address.
- Visit the Sprint Employee Referral Promotion Page.
- Enter the email address and your zip code into the form
- Pressing submit will let you know if you had a working email address
- Follow the prompts and select your options
- That’s it!
Well I’m extremely pleased with myself for getting this new offer! Hopefully my bill would be 2/3 cheaper and I get all the web stuff that I love to use! Alright, you heard it here. Now be sure to tell everyone else! Send them the link to this article.

Back when Sprint moved from Vision to Power Vision, I went from a Treo 650 (slower Internet) to the Treo 700P (faster Internet, more memory, etc.). The rep had said I could keep my Internet access for the same price, but when I went to activate it, they switched my $10 Vision data plan to their $25 Power Vision plan. I asked them to switch me back as I really just needed more memory on the phone and would be happy with the slower data.
To make the long battle short, they were caught in the lie and claimed they couldn’t even restore my old plan so I could go back to my phone. They put me through to their retention department where we went over my old bills and plan that I had and he applied every discount that he could possibly find to get me back to the price. I think he enjoyed trying to game the system as he ended up getting me everything that Sprint has to offer (7PM nights, 180 free minutes to my 300 minute plan, free Sprint to Sprint calling, text messaging, etc.) for the grand total of $25 a month.
I wasn’t going to complain, but I ended up doing better than I ever did before. With the new 2 year agreement, (I had bought the phone from Palm), Sprint gave me something like $150 in credit. I basically used my phone for 6 months for free.
