The Hallmark of a Business Woman

Mother is Smokin
My mom knows how to get to people right where they beat. By knowing what it was that I wanted most, (to be buttered up), my mom had successfully used me against myself to her advantage! That’s almost conniving you might say — well no, to be completely honest I have been hyping my mom up for the past I dunno how many months about how she has all that it takes to do her own business. And she knows this. She just needed to hear it. So out of the blue she decided she was going to use her skill in arts, crafts and photography to create an elegant correspondence company.

When she started talking to me about it, I questioned her profusely.

What are the demographics of your target market? Middle to Upper Class
Who are your wholesale suppliers? Somebody in China
And how much do materials cost? less than 50 cents per card

My darling mother had already done quite a considerable amount of research. I had totally underestimated her. Not only had she made her calls, she also sent samples out to all her friends and family and asked each one of them to ask their friends and family if they liked the cards and how much would they spend for them. Smoking.

So here I am hyping her up even more. This is me..

We can find a wholesale printer and send samples to local retailers to see if they would be interested in your vendorship. We’ll start with the small shops around Beverly Hills and West Los Angeles, if it picks up we can start opening gift boutiques.

I could HEAR my mother roll her eyes. All that she needed from me was the use of my business license and a website! LOL!

So you have it:

  • My mom took her talents and natural abilities and personified them into a business idea.
  • She has creative art skills – so she can initially create her own content.
  • She has great interpersonal skills – so she can an easily create a network to support her idea
  • She has excellent communication skills – so doing a business specializing in high class correspondence is not only lucrative but easy.
  • She knows how to touch people where they beat – if you can capture people’s hearts you have the world in your hands.

Effectively my mom is creating her own niche market, and leveraging her friends and her abilities to make it successful. And that my friends is a perfect example of how to get what you want! Will she be successful? Only time will tell! But I’ll show you the website as soon as I make it!

I am really excited for her. :) Her resourcefulness is enviable. It sounds like the card business is taking off for entrepreneurs lately with the availability of the home office equipment to create and market it all over.

Also, it seems that a lot of people are opting out of retirement for a healthier alternative (physically and mentally), which is staying active and giving lifelong entrepreneurial dreams a try. How much more fulfilling is that for those of us who have to lay aside our riskier financial dreams for a day job until our kids grow up. It’s so much better than automatically resigning yourself to some quiet corner as you age.

Best of luck to her, and you’re a great son to help out. You just might be helping to prepare your OWN golden nest egg, my friend. :)

  3. I’m really hoping she sticks to it. She’s a got a lot to learn though still about the web if she really wants a web based business. Though I think she could do fine without a website.

As far as having to raise a family, I’ve resigned myself to the idea that I might not be having kids until my early thirties, just because I want to be well off before I have to dedicate the rest of my life to my childrens.

++Plus I want to be able to have a stable household.

Then again not very many people have “planned” kids, so I’m hoping I can be one of them!

Well Melanie! You know I always appreciate your well thought out comments. So let me just say that if you ever need someone to bounce business ideas that might work for you let me know!
