Shelter or Investment

I recently read an article about how men and women view their purchase of a house. The article said that women buy a house for shelter and men buy a house as an investment. I was living at home with my parents at the time and I really wanted to move out. I began to think to myself, ‘Why do I want to move out?’ I obviously was not in dire need of a roof. However, I did want my own independence but most importantly the idea that a condo purchase in my local-potentially booming-downtown city had been flirting with my dreams to be a millionaire.

Google Sponsors Pirated Movies

Eating testicles? Not unless you’re willing to kill the boar yourself –or at least that’s what happened in Apocalypto. Yeah that’s right, you heard me, APOCALYPTO. Didn’t that movie just come out? No surprise it’s on the internet buzzing around already. But rather than a BitTorrent or a Warez site I’ve found it in on the Google Network being sponsored by Google Adsense. Is this a crime?

I couldn’t believe my eyes –from Kill Bill to Click, Borat and many more, the list of movies available on this site is unimaginable. Full length movies, and yes folks I have the links right here.

With full length movies are at your fingertips. Will you fall to temptation?

Is 20% Gas Cut Possible in 10 years?

Today the President gave his State of The Union Speech focusing primarily on U.S. energy issues. With more than 60% of U.S. petroleum imported from foreign countries the concept of “energy security” is taking center stage. Some of his remedies include increasing output of renewable energy sources like Ethanol gas (E85, which is more expensive and not as per mile efficient as gas), increasing automobile performance standards, and assisting other renewable energy technologies. But is cutting U.S. petrol consumption by 20% possible in 10 years?

The Data Storage Dilemma

I never realized how my personal data storage needs were affecting my finances. After doing a recent backup, I discovered that I have more than a Terabyte (that’s 1000 Gigabytes folks) of disk space which includes information spanning the last decade or so. The thought of my beloved stuff being lost to the void is frightening, so maybe these expenses are justified, maybe not. Either way it brought me to the uncomfortable place of realizing that in the long run I’m going to have to figure out a more cost effective solution.

Sell Your Soul For 20 Free CD’s

When I was growing up I never learned about financial responsibility; as a matter of fact the only thing I learned about money was that we didn’t have any. I got my first job at 15 working at a mall, but when I was 17 I moved out on my own and discovered the wild world of rentals and post office boxes.

Forget Taxes

A while back I was approached by a closet anti-government extremist who told me that it was in fact legal to not pay the government taxes. The argument is always convincing when these people present it because their ideas are well thought out, but their facts are crooked. Since this was the same source that came to me with home video “proof” that the government was behind the infamous suicides at Waco… I was a little reluctant in believing him. So I did some research, came across some really good arguments, and questioned myself: are we really required to file federal and state taxes? Continue reading
