Judging from the perspectives shared among blog readers and writers I think it’s safe to assume that most people buzzing around the money blogosphere are “Middlesters” — that is to say that they, (like you and me), are a shade in the spectrum of middle class. Sure there are exceptions to this rule, but look at where the buzz is on blogs that talk about money: how to invest in your retirement fund, where the latest deals and promotions are, how to get out of debt, how to pay for college, how to find loopholes in credit card agreements to make an easy buck, and of course one of my favorite topics how to increase your credit score. These are all consumeristic middle-classs money topics at best, and while they have their place in creating a solid financial foundation they are not the keys to the rocket ship that are going to blast your life off into the stratosphere. No, no, they are the keys to the Lexus parked in valet.

Being in a military family, despite having to constantly worry about your loved-ones overseas, definitely has its perks. Getting access to USAA’s exclusive banking and financial services is a perk you don’t want to miss out on! It has excellent services for personal banking, the lowest rates for car and home insurance, a great internet-only experience that makes life easy, and possibly the best customer service of any financial institution in the country. Back in 2005 I had a dismal credit score, but a year later after I made some smart moves my credit score skyrocketed from around 500 to 744. Since I’ve been on the market to buy some real estate property having my credit score so fresh and so clean is of the utmost importance and so I’ve written about my score woes quite a bit. I tend to feel completely naked and venerable when I go some place and I don’t have my cell phone on hand. I used to talk so much on the phone that I went out and bought a hands-free blue tooth headset to make chatting all the easier. The total costs of the equipment (my phone, the headset, and some downloads — upgraded annually) and my monthly service fees were coming up to around $1300 a year. That cost may seem like a lot but it doesn’t compare to the astronomical costs resulting from the bad behaviors that excessive talking can lead to. The other day a lady rambling on her cell phone found out with the help of my friend just how expensive that bad behavior can be.
